Another side endeavor was to design, print, and hand paint little alien artifacts and miniature versions of some of my buildings. It was especially cool to translate a fractionally-dimensioned shape into a 3D one! Directly painting on complex topologies without having to worry about a complicated UV unwrap was another satisfaction.
I used a dual-head Ultimaker 3 printer, which allowed me to print a water-soluble support material (PVA) in order to achieve some of these overhangs with minimal cleanup. The final material is PLA.
